Restaurant Electrical Buildout
Ottawa Electric completed the commercial electrical work for a new A&W restaurant buildout at 5329 Boundary Road in Ottawa.
Working with Arris Construction Group, the project involved a full restaurant electrical buildout from a base building. The scope covered the full restaurant, including the kitchen, service counter, dining area, drive-through, coolers/freezers, washrooms, staff areas, utility areas, exterior lighting, signage, data systems, and life-safety systems.
The electrical scope included a new distribution panel, ceiling-mounted transformer, kitchen equipment wiring, cooler/freezer wiring, lighting and lighting controls, drive-through connections, fire alarm integration, kitchen suppression integration, emergency lighting, and data infrastructure.
The project also included a high number of dedicated circuits for the size of the restaurant, with approximately 175 dedicated circuits required to support the kitchen, equipment, lighting, drive-through, technology, and support systems.
The A&W restaurant required a complete electrical buildout to support a fast-paced commercial food service environment.
This was more complex than a standard commercial fit-up. The restaurant needed reliable power for kitchen equipment, coolers/freezers, HVAC, lighting, signage, receptacles, drive-through systems, data infrastructure, POS systems, digital menu boards, and life-safety systems.
The project also had to move quickly. Restaurant buildouts require tight coordination with kitchen equipment vendors, drive-through vendors, signage teams, fire alarm contractors, suppression system providers, and multiple trades working in the same space.
Ottawa Electric installed the new distribution panel and ceiling-mounted transformer to support the restaurant’s electrical load.
The team completed power wiring and dedicated circuit work for kitchen equipment, coolers/freezers, HVAC equipment, lighting, receptacles, signage, drive-through equipment, and other food service systems.
For the kitchen, Ottawa Electric completed electrical connections for the restaurant’s equipment layout, including equipment shown in the enlarged kitchen power plan, cooler/freezer systems, prep areas, servery areas, storage areas, and POS-related equipment.
The lighting scope included LED lighting installation, exterior lighting, sign lighting, parking and drive-through lighting, occupancy sensors, dimming, scheduled controls, and lighting control systems.
The drive-through and technology scope included menu board connections, speaker/post wiring, low-voltage pathways, digital menu board infrastructure, drive-through communication system connections, POS system support, guest connect system support, music system coordination, and network cabinet/data infrastructure.
The fire alarm and kitchen suppression scope included new fire alarm devices, strobes, commissioning, inspection, verification/testing, and integration with the kitchen suppression system. A 120V strobe was tied in through a contactor controlled by the suppression system.
The emergency lighting scope included full emergency lighting coverage throughout the restaurant.
The A&W restaurant electrical buildout was completed on schedule and within budget.
The completed electrical systems support the restaurant’s kitchen operations, cooling and refrigeration equipment, drive-through system, interior and exterior lighting, signage, POS/data systems, life-safety systems, and daily restaurant operations.
The result is a fully functional restaurant with reliable equipment power, safer fire alarm and kitchen suppression integration, efficient lighting controls, complete drive-through connectivity, and electrical systems ready for opening.
This project required Ottawa Electric to complete a large electrical scope within a fast restaurant construction timeline.
The work involved coordination with kitchen equipment vendors, drive-through system vendors, lighting/signage teams, suppression system providers, fire alarm partners, and multiple trades working in the same space.
The restaurant also required an unusually high number of dedicated circuits for its size, with approximately 175 dedicated circuits needed to support the kitchen, coolers/freezers, drive-through, lighting, signage, technology, and support systems.
The kitchen suppression integration was another important detail. Ottawa Electric tied a 120V strobe into a contactor controlled by the suppression system, helping connect kitchen safety systems with the restaurant’s life-safety infrastructure.
This project included ESA permits, inspections, fire alarm verification/testing, kitchen suppression verification, and emergency lighting testing.
Ottawa Electric’s work supported key commercial restaurant safety requirements, including fire alarm integration, kitchen suppression integration, emergency lighting, dedicated equipment circuits, and reliable electrical infrastructure.
