Medical Facility Electrical
Ottawa Electric completed commercial electrical work for a new dental and plastic surgery facility at 1515 Earl Armstrong Road in Ottawa.
Working with Orange Group, the project started from the base building and included electrical systems for a full medical facility layout. The space included dental operatories, hygiene rooms, consultation rooms, procedure rooms, recovery space, reception, guest lounge, sterilization areas, lab, doctor’s office, staff areas, utility/storage rooms, laundry, and a universal washroom.
The electrical scope included a new distribution panel, ceiling-mounted transformer, dedicated circuits, receptacles, lighting, HVAC power, emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, structured data infrastructure, network drops, equipment room wiring, and advanced lighting controls.
The project also included room-specific electrical coordination for dental and surgical equipment, including X-ray equipment requirements, conduit pathways, low-voltage connections, and dedicated circuit needs shown in the project plans.
The facility required a complete electrical buildout from the base building to support a modern dental and plastic surgery environment.
This was more complex than a standard commercial fit-up. The space needed reliable power for dental and surgical equipment, dedicated circuits, lighting controls, structured data infrastructure, fire alarm integration, emergency lighting, and code-compliant electrical systems across treatment, procedure, recovery, sterilization, and support spaces.
The project also included specialized ceiling and equipment coordination. The ceiling-mounted transformer had to be installed in a tight ceiling space around HVAC ductwork, and the facility required careful coordination around medical and dental equipment requirements.
Ottawa Electric installed the new distribution panel and completed the electrical infrastructure needed to power dental and surgical equipment, lighting, HVAC, receptacles, dedicated circuits, and specialized medical equipment.
For the ceiling-mounted transformer, the team built a custom welded rack that was seismically approved for the extra weight. The transformer had to be installed in a very tight ceiling space around HVAC ductwork, which required careful planning and coordination with other trades.
The lighting scope included lighting installation, occupancy sensors, dimming, and scene controls to support the different needs of clinical, reception, office, and support spaces.
The structured data scope included network drops and equipment room wiring, helping support the facility’s IT and clinical technology infrastructure.
The fire alarm and life-safety scope included new devices, strobes, pull stations, smoke and heat detectors, fire alarm tie-in, programming, commissioning, inspection, verification/testing, battery units, remote heads, exit signs, and full emergency lighting coverage.
The Dental & Plastic Surgery Facility project was completed in February 2026.
The completed work provides reliable power for dental and surgical equipment, upgraded life-safety systems, emergency lighting, structured data infrastructure, and advanced lighting controls.
The result is a fully functional medical facility with safer electrical infrastructure, better data support, improved lighting control, and electrical systems designed around the needs of clinical care, patient flow, and daily operations.
This project required Ottawa Electric to build electrical infrastructure for a specialized healthcare environment, not just a standard commercial space.
The facility included dental operatories, procedure rooms, recovery space, sterilization areas, lab space, and support areas, each with its own electrical, data, lighting, and equipment requirements.
The ceiling-mounted transformer was one of the most unique parts of the project. Ottawa Electric had to build a custom welded rack, have it seismically approved, and install it in a tight ceiling space around HVAC ductwork.
The project also required coordination around dental and medical equipment, including dedicated power, conduit pathways, data infrastructure, life-safety systems, and lighting controls.
This project included ESA permits, inspections, fire alarm verification/testing, and emergency lighting testing.
Ottawa Electric’s work supported key life-safety and healthcare facility requirements, including fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, exit signage, dedicated equipment power, reliable distribution, and code-compliant electrical infrastructure.
