Transit Facility Upgrade
Ottawa Electric completed a commercial electrical upgrade inside an existing OC Transpo facility in Ottawa.
Working with The FIA Group, the project focused on garage/service bays and maintenance areas within the transit facility. The scope included removing and installing 320 LED light fixtures across 3 bays, upgrading the fire alarm system, replacing and relocating emergency lighting, adding new emergency lighting, and installing a new 600V panel to support multiple garage doors, door operators, upgraded motors, and related controls.
The project also included ESA permits and inspections, fire alarm verification/testing, and emergency lighting testing.
The OC Transpo facility needed upgraded electrical systems to support safer, more reliable operations inside active garage and maintenance areas.
The existing lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm coverage, and garage door power infrastructure needed to be modernized. The project also required upgraded power for multiple garage doors and motor systems.
Because the work took place inside an active transit facility, Ottawa Electric had to coordinate around ongoing operations, other trades, garage bay access, and work restrictions that limited when electrical work could be completed.
Ottawa Electric removed and installed 320 LED light fixtures in 3 garage/service bays as part of a targeted commercial lighting upgrade.
The fire alarm scope included new devices, strobes, pull stations, bells, smoke/heat detectors, annunciator-related work, tie-in, programming, commissioning, inspection, and verification/testing. The fire alarm work was completed across 4 bays.
The team installed a new 600V panel to provide reliable power for multiple garage doors, door operators, upgraded motors, and related controls.
Ottawa Electric also replaced, relocated, and added emergency lighting to improve full coverage across 3 bays. Emergency lighting testing and verification were completed as part of the project.
A major coordination challenge was that OC Transpo did not allow Ottawa Electric to work in the same bay at the same time as another company working on a separate project. This made scheduling difficult, and the team could only work on Fridays during the period when the other company was not present.
The OC Transpo project is now 100% completed.
The completed work improved lighting performance, upgraded fire alarm coverage, strengthened emergency lighting coverage, and provided reliable power for multiple garage doors and upgraded motors.
The project supports safer, more reliable day-to-day operations in the garage and maintenance areas of the facility.

The project also included a mix of high-bay lighting upgrades, fire alarm work, emergency lighting upgrades, and 600V power for garage door motor systems, making coordination and sequencing especially important.
