InHarmony Developments

Custom Home Electrical

Residential Project

Project Scope

Ottawa Electric completed the full residential electrical work for a custom new build home by InHarmony Developments.

The project included the full home, including the secondary dwelling unit, kitchen, living areas, mechanical areas, exterior lighting, and custom lighting features throughout the property.

Ottawa Electric installed a new 200A electrical service with meter base, main panel, sub-panels, underground service, panel labelling, generator panel, and automatic transfer switch. The project also included a standby generator system designed for full-home backup, including support for the secondary dwelling unit.

The home also received full custom lighting, including pot lights, decorative fixtures, exterior lighting, sconces, accent lighting, under-cabinet lighting, landscape lighting, dimmers, and lighting zones.

The Problem

This custom home needed a complete electrical system designed for modern residential use, backup power, and a secondary dwelling unit.

The electrical scope had to support the full home, secondary dwelling unit, custom lighting design, kitchen and laundry loads, HVAC, receptacles, smoke/CO alarms, and generator backup.

Because the home included two living units, the generator setup needed careful planning so one generator could support both units while allowing controls for the first unit to cut off basement backup power when needed.

The Process

Ottawa Electric installed the new 200A electrical service, including the meter base, main panel, sub-panels, underground service, panel labelling, generator panel, and automatic transfer switch.

The team completed the wiring for the full custom home, including dedicated circuits, kitchen wiring, laundry wiring, receptacles, HVAC wiring, lighting, and smoke/CO alarm wiring.

For the secondary dwelling unit, Ottawa Electric completed the required wiring for dedicated circuits, kitchen/laundry areas, panel/sub-panel needs, smoke/CO alarms, lighting, receptacles, HVAC, and separate controls.

The generator scope included a standby generator with automatic transfer switch. The system was designed for full-home backup, including the secondary dwelling unit, while also allowing backup power control between the main unit and basement unit.

The custom lighting scope included pot light installation, decorative fixtures, exterior lighting, sconces, accent lighting, under-cabinet lighting, landscape lighting, dimmers, and lighting zones.

The Result

The InHarmony Developments project was completed on schedule with zero faults.

The completed electrical system gives the home reliable 200A service, safe secondary dwelling unit wiring, full-home backup power readiness, custom interior and exterior lighting, and properly labelled electrical infrastructure.

The project passed inspections and was completed with ESA permits, inspections, and generator-related inspections.

What Made This Project Unique

This project required Ottawa Electric to coordinate a full custom-home electrical system with generator integration and secondary dwelling unit requirements.

One of the most unique parts of the project was the backup power setup. Ottawa Electric integrated one generator to feed two units, with controls that allow the first unit to cut off basement backup power when needed.

The custom lighting scope also added detail to the project, with interior and exterior lighting, decorative fixtures, accent lighting, under-cabinet lighting, landscape lighting, dimmers, and lighting zones throughout the home.

Compliance and Safety

This project included ESA permits, inspections, and generator-related inspections.

Ottawa Electric’s work supported safe residential electrical infrastructure, including 200A service, panel labelling, secondary dwelling unit wiring, smoke/CO alarms, generator backup, dedicated circuits, and inspection-ready electrical systems.
